Mike, Did you get your check yet? This would have been really handy to see when the oil spill clean up was in full swing. I’ve searched for these webcams on google and just found them. would have loved to have found these months ago to SPY on the “clean up crew”. I bet there would be lots of divorce attorneys being hired right now instead of litigation attorneys for claims. Was a bad bad group out there. Glad they are gone. i love these cameras though.

Does anyone play sand volleyball down there on the beach? I am an avid player (intermediate level). I am looking for 4 on 4 or 6 on 6 play.

It’s nice to be able to look at the beach when I’m at lunch, I work in Seattle. This is all I think about, you never realize what you had in your back yard until you move. I miss the beach life. My brother has a Condo two blocks from the camera. Can’t wait till I’m back on the gulf.

I am a local oil clean up worker in Gulf Shores. As of 11 July 2010 We have had oil and tar balls comming in in waves. Some days worse than others. What makes everything worse is the Mayor of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach paying a private company to run a tractor pulled screen down the beach which only removes about 10 to 15 percent of the tar balls and burries the other 85 to 90 percent. We go out there daily and remove by hand what they are covering up. They keep saying our beaches are still beautiful white beaches, which they are as long as you dont dig in the sand more than 6 to 8 inches. I just want our city officials to stop helping BP cover up a known proablem for the sake of tourism. Get it cleaned up and the tourism will come back. Till then BP must pay !

I’m watching from Arizona. One may think the images and stories are filtered by distance and technology. Dear People of the Gulf, we all are crying, worried and hopeful with you! This is not a good thing, but it will pass and we will all be smarter and more connected because of it. GOD Bless Y’all! Jim

you can also look at the pier cam and adjust it and see the water and right now it looks good! all i see is seaweed. i just wish people would keep their political speeches off of here and enjoy the cams. I have chatted with some people there on vacation and they have seen a few oil globs but no smell they could sense. but the crowds are much smaller there than normal for this time of year.

spend time on the coast every Spring and Thanksgiving and check the webcam when we have bad weather up on the plains.
Neat trick is to call friends in Oklahoma, have them pull up webcam and wave to them !
Noticed beach was packed this weekend and lot’s of folks in the water, a couple of orange cones and about three TV stations looking for oil soaked beaches.
Sure didnt see that on national news !.

Why on earth would we want our government, which continues to create a deficit well North of $1,000,000,000,000 to take control of a successful corporate entity? BP employs tens of thousands of citizens of this country and contributes millions upon millions in tax revenue, charitable donations and the like. It’s like asking someone who has filed bankruptcy and is mired down in debt to handle money for a living. It ludicrous and laughable. Would you give control of your hard-earned money to someone who cannot handle their own? Or ask a plumber to do an electrician’s job? Of course not. Our government is the last entity even remotely qualified to handle this ACCIDENT. Please remember, this was an ACCIDENT – not purposeful and they happen, e.g., plane crashes, train accidents, mining accidents.

The beaches will again be clean eventually with a lot of hard work (I’ve volunteered my time – have you?) . . . .individuals with legitimate losses (see Katrina) will be paid. Lessons will be learned. Have a little patience and faith and put your feet in another person’s shoes for a change. Do something to contribute to the resolution instead of becoming part of the problem. The negativity of this country is disheartening.

I check the site every day,it makes me feel so good. Growing up in the water of the gulf, it was alway so clean and beautiful. With the oil spill, I just can’t believe it’s beauty is being destroyed. It is making it hard for me to look and worrying of one day not wanting to look anymore. It makes me shed a tear everyday.

We visit Gulf Shores annually and plan to do so despite any possible issues with the water and the rig explosion. Just as we took our kids to see New Orleans after Katrina to experience the realty of disasters and its effect on communities, so shall they experience the issues regarding the beaches, IF and WHEN it happens. Of course, we are hoping for the best for the sake of the wildlife, water and beaches.

I love this web cam, but unable to get on here tonight. I use both cams to view the beach everyday. Love Gulf Shores and pray pray pray that the dam oil stays away. I cry for all the babies(sea life and land) that will be affected by this catastrophy. Breaks my heart. Hope to move to the Gulf Shores area (Foley) in the near future. Visit every year and fell in love with the area. Everything’s better at the Beach :)

Thanks for your concern John I just came from a meeting in Gulf Shores with the State of Alabama Tourism director, BP, the Mayor of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, And countless concerned citizens it was standing room only. The dome to cap the leak is on its way to the site now, it will take a couple of days to sink it and get it in place. BP has stopped one of the small leaks as of today with luck and a lot of work we should be ok. The beaches are open and will remain according to the state here is a link to more information from BP. http://www.deepwaterhorizonresponse.com/go/site/2931/

As a boater living in Fairhope I use both the gulf shores public beach and Fairhope Pier site often. Gulf Shores webcam works regularly but Fairhope site is hit and miss – more often miss lately.

I have tried to get Zekes often but have never been successful.

    Great sites when they work.
